Butt, Bari summoned over IPL fiasco

The Chairman of the National Assembly standing committee on sports, Jamshed Dasti has summoned Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt, COO Wasim Bari and selector Muhammad Illyas for a hearing on February 3.

"We have asked Ejaz Butt and Wasim Bari to attend and explain how they gave clearance to our players to participate in the IPL bid without getting proper assurances that our players would not be humiliated in this fashion. We have summoned Illyas to ask him about his statement that he made against the sports minister and ministry," Dasti said.

The sports ministry has already asked the board to take disciplinary action against Illyas for making some disparaging remarks about sports minister Ijaz Hussain Jakhrani.

"We are also concerned with the way this IPL issue was handled by the PCB and generally how they have handled relations with India," he added.

Dasti said the performance of the Pakistan team in New Zealand and Australia would also be reviewed at the next hearing as the team had brought great disappointment to the nation with their poor performances.
